CAAAM to Host Veteran’s Parade to Kick Off Week-Long Celebration

The Clemson Area African American Museum will be hosting a Veteran’s Parade to kick off their week-long celebration of veterans. The theme for the week of celebration is “Marching Thru History” and will focus on the contributions of African American veterans while celebrating and appreciating the service of ALL veterans.

There will be an exhibition of local African American veterans. Other events during the week will include a panel discussion featuring: African American veterans discussing their military experience; celebration of African American military women, ROTC and African Americans whose military career began with high school or college ROTC enrollment.

The parade will be held on Sunday, November 5, 2023 beginning at 3:00 PM. The parade route will begin along Church Street in Clemson and end at the museum. There will be a reception and opening ceremony for the Veteran’s celebration. The parade line-up will be at Goldenview Baptist Church and there will be no automobiles allowed in the parade, except for military vehicles and those transporting veterans participating in the parade who have mobility issues. Float bases should be a wagon, golf cart or a base that can be pulled by a lawn tractor. Children on decorated bicycles are encourage to participate. Float examples are shown below.

Schools, churches, organizations and groups are encouraged to enter a float, a band, dance troupe or other entertainment for the parade. Participation is FREE and you must submit a parade registration form to participate. Parade registration forms may be obtained and submitted by visiting the museum at 214 Butler Street in Clemson or by clicking on the Register for Parade link below or via the email Deadline to register is Friday, October 6, 2023.
