Oral History Project

The Clemson Area African American Museum (CAAAM) received a Federal grant from the Institute for Museums and Libraries Services to encourage the African American residents of Upstate South Carolina to preserve their stories through oral history.

CAAAM just wrapped up the last of five oral history workshops in March to educate community members on how to collect and preserve oral history. Guest speaker Dr. LeDatta Grimes, Oral Historian, was very helpful in educating the workshop participants in completing successful interviews.

The oral history team includes: Angela Agard, Director, Journee Jones, Project Coordinator, and Jordan Jamison, Research Intern.

Interviews are now underway at CAAAM and participants in the workshops are putting their newfound knowledge to work collecting oral histories. If you are interested in becoming an interviewer or an interviewee, please contact Journee Jones at jjones@cityofclemson.org or 864-654-2944.
